Carter was helping to vacuum and called out for me. I walked over thinking he needed help, but he just looked up at me and said "I just love you Mommy!" (He likes to wear his Flash mask all the time too)
We had a few good snows this winter and some kind neighbors helped clear our driveway with their snowblowers a few times!
We went snow tubing on Martin Luther King Jr. day and had a wonderful time! It was a little crowded, but we got several runs in!
The girls had a paint night for a church activity and Carter wanted to be included. He painted this and told me that it was a worm that was hurt and getting help from Jesus to be resurrected :)
Daddy made some "boss pancakes" to everyone's delight!
In March the kids had some time off so we went to Philadelphia! We spent time at the Franklin Institute, a small zoo nearby, saw the Liberty Bell, and visited the Reading Terminal Market for some yummy food. The kids all got pizza, Brandon and I shared a delicious pork sandwich on amazing Philly bread and then we all enjoyed homemade donuts! We also swam in the hotel pool several times, which was probably the highlight for the kids.
Clockwise from top left: lemon (Lily), oreo cream (Brandon), maple cream (Michal), chocolate peanut butter cream (Brielle), apple fritter, chocolate sprinkles (Carter). They were all really yummy!
We came home for Sunday and both Brandon and Michal spoke in Sacrament meeting. We stayed the night at the Hershey Lodge so we could go to the indoor water park on the last day of break, and Michal's birthday! It was a lot of fun! The girls loved the slides, and during the sanitizing breaks we got to play in the arcade!
A couple weeks later the kids had spring break over the Easter weekend. We decided to explore Pittsburgh this time. We went to the Phipps Conservatory, the zoo and aquarium, and the Natural History/Museum of Art. Again the pool was a hit, and finding a hotel with an open pool these days with Covid restrictions hasn't been easy! Some of these photos are panoramas, so click to view them better!
blossoms
cool glass artwork in the conservatory
The sycamore tree looks like army camo!
cool striped pansies!
little birdies in their nest!
I guess we didn't take too many photos at the zoo....it was a little drizzly. But we saw a family of lions, some tigers, rhinos, elephants, flamingos, warthogs, gorillas, and lots of different monkey species. The aquarium is part of the zoo too and we saw lots of different fish, seals, sharks, jellyfish, seahorses, and stingrays. The kids got to crawl through a tunnel by the touch pool and see what it's like underwater, and the seal exhibit had a tunnel everyone could walk through and the seals would swim right over us!
The zoo has a long escalator at the beginning that reminded us of the subway!
The natural history museum had rocks, gems and minerals....
wildlife dioramas....
....and dinosaurs!
The museum of art had a hall of architecture and life size plaster casts of several buildings
The kids were getting kind of tired so we went through the rest of the art pretty quickly. There were a couple of nice Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, Rembrandt and Degas paintings. We finished our visit off with souvenirs from the gift shop....The girls picked long snake stuffies and Carter picked a puzzle. He's starting to get pretty good at putting puzzles together! As we left the museum the skies were clear but then quickly turned to a snow squall! We were hoping to ride the Incline train up the hill to see the best views of the city, but everything was clouded over so we skipped it. We headed home after an hour of traffic from an accident and getting lunch and gas at Sam's! It was a great trip and I'm so glad we made it to Pittsburgh! The rest of the Easter weekend we spent watching General Conference which was wonderful. We borrowed a puzzle and the girls put it together over just one and a half sessions of conference!
